Carbon fiber

fibre de carbone

Carbon fiber consists of extremely fine fibers, about 5 to 10 microns in diameter, and is composed mainly of carbon atoms. These are agglomerated in microscopic crystals which are aligned more or less parallel to the long axis of the fibre. The alignment of the crystals makes the fibre extremely resistant for its size. Several thousand carbon fibres are wound together to form a yarn, which can be woven or used as is.

This material is characterized by its low density (1.7 to 1.9), high tensile and compressive strength, flexibility, good electrical and thermal conductivity, temperature resistance and chemical inertness (except oxidation).

Carbon is particularly recognized as a high-performance material in advanced technological fields (aeronautics, aerospace, defense, motor sports, etc.) as well as in the construction industry (construction and civil engineering).
